As Angel Writes…

Hi, lovely souls.

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything here, and I just wanted to give you all a quick update.

Oddly enough, this year hasn’t been like last year. In so many ways. But most importantly, my writing has suffered. I’m still trying to ‘catch my flow’ and find my voice… and get back to the point where I need to write every day. That was me until last night. Sure, I’ve posted a short story on my Facebook page, and sure, I even published Love So Beautiful, but that wasn’t fulfillment for me. It hasn’t been fulfilling. I’m being honest.

So, where do I stand right now? I stand now with two pages typed of the beginning of a story. I won’t go into any further details, because for all I know, this story, once I reach my self-imposed quota, won’t even see the light of day.

But what I can say is that I am writing. I’m taking my time doing so, and I’m okay with that.

Here’s my finding myself again, spreading my wings, and flying through the pages that I will write- not stumbling along the way.

Any tips? Suggestions? I’m a full-on pantser, and I can’t be changed. I’m sorry not sorry.

Until next time.

Keep flying high,

Angel Mystique x

From Author Olivia Gaines!! Go grab it now, before it comes out tomorrow! 😉

On a Rainy Night In Georgia

On a rainy night in Georgia, Ezekiel Neary lights a fire in the old hunting cabin in the mountains where he, his two brothers and father would come to get away from it. Healing from a gun shot wound, the post traumatic stress has left him less than fit for human company. Company was more than he bargained for when a naked pregnant woman in labor shows up on his doorstep.

The roads are washed out and Aisha Miller has no choice but to run from her captor or risk bringing her child into the world in a dark cabin. Praying, she runs wildly through the woods, ending on a washed out road. The only glimmer of hope is a blue mailbox, partially rusted, halfway sticking out under the sparse moonlight.

The lone cabin sits on a hill, with two large windows looking down on her as if to pity her circumstance. Half crawling, the contractions are one minute apart and she prays that the figure in the window will be a Godsend versus the nightmare she just escape.

Join me as we head to Georgia for a new twist in the happily ever after of Ezekiel and Aisha.

Lastly, my latest book baby is LIVE!!!!! Josiah and Peyton are out in the world!!!

What happens when you get another chance to make everything right?

A chance encounter brings Josiah Briggs and Peyton Sinclaire face-to-face. He has everything he could ever dream of- except her. She’s at the end of her rope and needs to find a silver lining.
They embark on a journey of second chances, forgiveness, and love. They’ve tasted a cup of pain, dealing with one another before, but will this time be different?
Will they take a chance on each other again to truly discover how they can make each other’s lives and worlds house a LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL?

That’s all I’ve got for now, lovely souls! Enjoy! 😀

Open Letter to Writers Everywhere:

Dear Writers everywhere:

I have something to tell you, and I would love to hear your thoughts. It’s quite… I don’t know. Humbling? Hmmm… You can be the judge along with me.

This year, I’ve written more words than I’ve ever imagined I would write. I’ve published 4 short stories and I have a 2018 release up for Pre-order. Also, I’ve written my first novel *(40,063 words). Plus a ton of short stories… that are on Wattpad. Aforementioned novel will not be published; it was a test to myself that I *can* actually write and finish a novel.

So, I’m going to be brief: from 2018-2019, I’m going to be taking a much-needed writing hiatus.

Much reading will done and a ton of writing ideas will probably ensue. That’s all a part of being a writer.

Right? 😉

Until next time, keep flying high, lovely souls!

The man in the mirror looks a lot like his old man and a failed marriage and crumbling career testify to just how close to the bottom he really is.Declan wants retribution for the death of his partner and Mina is the key. When her long-lost father turns up in the bed of the head of the mob responsible for the murder, Declan offers Mina the one thing she can’t pass up: the chance to find out why her father left her. 40,063 words, 27 Days….

Lovely souls!!!

I have news! Great news! WONDERFUL, SPECTACULAR NEWS, EVEN. During October 2017, not only did I decide to take a hiatus from social media (which began 22 September 2017), but I decided I would use the time away to focus on my next writing project. A little history, before I dive into my good news and the outcome of my hiatus.

I picked up a pen when I was eight years young, I picked up and pencil and began writing. I wrote 300 plus pages of a novel that is no longer in my possession and hasn’t been for ages. (That story, along with countless others are no longer in my possession, due to them being stolen and due to a massive moment when my old USB drive decided to erase all of my work, plus tons of character inspiration from it.)

From that day forward, I knew writing was my calling. This year alone, I have written roughly 106,063 words!!!! In five months. January (Amaze Me), February (Trust Me), May (Sleep Sweetly), June (Sweet Dreams: A Sleep Sweetly Short), a couple of short pieces of my Wattpad account, and now…..

The longest piece I have written this year, let alone EVER.

I’m super proud of this accomplishment as it has been a dream of mine since I picked up that pencil!

I cannot end this blog post without thanking my two Alpha Readers, Critique Partners, and cheerleaders. My boyfriend and author Cedric N. Floyd, along with my literary big sister Raven St. Pierre. You two pushed me when I was ready to throw in the towel and accept that this story was only meant to be 20,000 words. But talking things out and taking a couple of days here and there to breathe… pushed to me this result: my very first novel and 40,063 words. I owe you both so much! Thank you. from the bottom of my heart, all the way to the top…. THANK YOU.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress, lovely souls.

After my mandatory three-week writing hiatus, I plan to get back to plotting a new story, which I will begin writing in January of 2018. I might do the same self-challenge. WriMo. We shall see. If it worked once, it can work twice, right?

Until next time!

Just a little scene…

Forgive me for not posting anything in a while. Life has been crazy good, but I’m back.

With a writing challenge. Here’s Day One’s scene!

I hope you all enjoy!!!

***POV: Her, name unknown***

If hindsight were twenty-twenty, I would have kicked my old college, Creative Writing professor in the face that day. That prompt that sat on the board in green Expo marker: Write about a source of pain and pleasure. If someone had told me that prompt would have led to me conjuring up him on Facebook and sending him a message, I would have laughed in their face; told they they were lying.

I still laugh sometimes. Like right now. When the supposed object of that prompt is lying in my bed, looking at some comedy sketch show on TV, waiting for me to come fill the other half of it.
I shake my head and smile, as my gaze sweeps over his face. He turns toward me, doing the same thing. His cinnamon irises dance over my body, and I shiver. All the way down to my toes.
He winks at me, and I blush, giggling, trying to suppress the memory of us meeting face-to-face for the first time.
“Come to bed, babe. You can write more in the morning.” His left arm is outstretched toward me, and I take in every inch of him that I can see.
The deep, ridges of nothing but abs.
Thick, black eyelashes and eyebrows over rich, mocha brown skin.
His full lips that make me go weak.
His soft, expressive eyes that make me grow weaker. His large hands…
I crawl into bed him, shaking my head again.
“What’s so….?” The deep timbre of his voice heats my right earlobe, as he drapes his arm around my stomach.
“That prompt was sooo…. wrong.”
“Oh? Howso?”
“You weren’t… you aren’t the greatest source of pain and pleasure. Not by far.”
He chuckles, and somewhere in the distance, I hear the soft ticking of a clock’s second hand.
“Then what am I, beautiful?”
He already knows my answer, but I turn in his arms, framing his face with my small hands anyway.
“You’re the greatest joy I’ve ever known.”

Trying to “fit in” as a writer.

Hi, lovely souls!

Earlier this month, I received a call from a fellow author offering me feedback on my first release. They pointed out the inconsistencies within the story. I listened, and upon the call ending, I became a bit… annoyed. It wasn’t so much as with the feedback. That book and the circumstances surrounding the release took so much out of me, I won’t be cleaning up and re-publishing the manuscript. I love it the way it is and have no desire to change anything. Call me stubborn or whatever else, but that’s my view.

It was how the conversation shifted to the amount of money the author racked in daily off of their books. I, for one, am not writing for money, nor will I ever. Money is nice, but it’s an added bonus to me. I’ve written and published books because I love it- not to make money.

Over the course of my first few months as a published author, I’ve published four books. Well, two novellas and two short stories- plus numerous one-shots on Wattpad. My original intent was to publish a book a month. If I fast drafted like I did in the past, that would be no problem, right?

Wrong. I tried and failed so much that I’m currently on hiatus from writing anymore this year. I’m burned out. I’ve lost my will to write. Depressing huh? Don’t worry. I have faith that I’ll be back refreshed and ready to put pen to page.

I was trying to follow the flow of several indie authors whom I admire. That’s just not possible for me anymore. At least not right now. Not with a full-time (night) job, going to school for my Masters Degree, and an actual life outside of writing- i.e. family and my relationship.

Writing every day? Again: not for me. I’ve tried, and I just can’t keep up.

I’m not that kind of writer, and that is okay. I’m still figuring out who I am, though.

How about you?

Have you tried following in the footsteps of another author, only to realize it’s not working for you? Or did you decide to blaze your own trail early on?

Until next time!

Keep flying high!
